Books

Over the ground and downstairs levels, we have five rooms and two corridor areas, all of which visitors are welcome to browse.

The Bookshop has long been known for its crime and adventure collection, with a good stock of Ian Fleming’s ‘James Bond’ novels in first edition, and signed copies of John le Carre’s novels, among others. We have recently developed a science fiction section, which includes a wide range of books from collectable vintage paperbacks to signed first editions of Arthur C. Clarke’s novels.

Antiquarian books and fine bindings are mostly housed behind the counter near the entrance but we are always happy for visitors to browse this section.

A book for December

Our book of the month for December is a signed collector’s edition of Redwall, the first in a series of children’s fantasy novels by author Brian Jacques. Redwall is the name of the abbey featured in the book and of the whole series of books, which concluded with The Rogue Crew, published posthumously in 2011.

This was a lovely copy in near mint condition, flat signed by the author, purchased by a customer in Pennsylvania as a Christmas gift for a lucky friend.
